National Archives seeks your photos, poems and more for Documerica project on the environment

What is the state of our environment today?  Looking back 40 years from now, what will images of our neighborhoods, parks and cities reveal about the health of our surroundings?

To tell this important story, The National Archives and Records Administration together with the United States Environmental Protection Agency is reviving its historic Documerica project, a 1970s-era initiative to ”photographically document subjects of environmental concern.”

Today they are challenging students ages 13 and up to snap a photo, write a poem, design a graphic, or create a multimedia video to share how they see their environment. Previous examples are available online.

Submission of entries runs from Jan. 1-6, 2012, and awards will be announced on Feb. 6, 2012.
