Where’s the “evidence” on school lunches?

Kids' Safe and Healthful Foods Projects

90% of meals offered in schools do not meet current nutrition standards. The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 requires the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to update nutrition standards and ensure the safety of foods served in schools.  The Kids’ Safe and Healthful Foods Project, a joint endeavor by The Pew Charitable Trusts and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, wants to improve this situation by using data to formulate nonpartisan, science-based nutrition standards.  The goal?  Getting kids to eat more fresh fruits and vegetables while decreasing their consumption of sodium and junk food.

The Health DATA (Data. Advocacy. Training. Assistance.) Program exists to make data easy and understandable to a wide range of health advocates through trainings, workshops and technical assistance. Through in-person and on-line trainings, our goal is to improve the capacity of health experts and advocates to find, understand and present credible data in their programmatic and policy development work.
